Welcome to the RAN Lab
Resilience, Affect, and Neurodevelopment
California State University, Dominguez Hills
Director: David Weissman, PhD
Our Mission
Our mission is to conduct research that can help support the mental health of youth who experience adversity in childhood. We do this by:
Developing a mechanistic understanding of how exposure to violence shapes the way youth experience emotions in their brains, bodies and minds.
Identifying characteristics of youth’s emotion functioning that make them more resilient to the mental health impacts of childhood adversity.
Evaluating how structural characteristics of our society, like laws and public policies, may reduce or exacerbate racial and socioeconomic disparities in who experiences adversity and how that adversity impacts their brain development and mental health.
